I'm trying to push to 100 colonies this year but we just hit a wall in this drought we are seeing and until we get more rain I'm holding off on making splits.

I have a single mean hive over in Indiana. Its on ZERO treatments for its fourth year now and it consistently produces about 220# of harvestable honey.

I don't care if its mean. The property owner takes pride in "his" mean bees even though I have offered to remove them.

When you aren't moving them and there is little or zero liability I think a hive that churning out honey, valued at 1600.00 or more in gross revenue is an asset not a problem. I wish I had more bees like them to be honest, though I would never dream of putting them in an urban location.

Do not misunderstand my opinion as saying that all mean bees are good bees. Each case is different, but I think mine have their value for certain.
