 > I was simply asking for tips on the mechanics of producing a hard
sugar block without cooking the sugar.

Think sugar cube, or a bag of sugar the got wet and turned into a lump.

I've been able to mix sugar with a little bit of water, just enough so
it's sticky, pack it into a candy board with a rolling pin and then let
it dry. Make sure you get the candy board wet first so it sticks will
to the candy board. It can take awhile to dry, but I put my in a honey
warmer and it didn't take long. Not quite the same result as cooking
it, but does give you a block of sugar.

I suspect if you had a mold and with a press, you could make suitable
blocks in the same fashion.
