I was intruiged with the same concept and one winter did a temperature study
. I contacted a company called Tempminder and they sent me several similar
refurbished devices . I put up to 12 probes into several hives. It certainly
gave me an overview of what went on from Nov. to April . What was intriguing
was to be present to watch the temperature change from probe to probe as the
cluster migrated to a different location and the temperature rise as the
population increased.
Everyone should experience this. At a certain point you will find that the
internal hive body temperature reaches a steady state of about 34 deg. C and
will remain that way right through the year.
You will find most probes for those devices are accurate within a half
degree and you could as I did glue them (most come with a sticky backing)
on to a large metal washer which acts as weight also.
