Those interested in the new Russian bees need to check out the Charlie
Harper/ Kim Flottum article about the Russian bees in the December issue of
Bee Culture (pg. 42).

Also Charlie Harper will be speaking on the Russian bees at the AHPA meeting
in San Antonio next month.

Too early for me to tell how well I like the Russian bees ( I got my first
last April) but I remain optimistic!

Charlie Harper is the person with the knowledge on the Russian line as he
has been involved from the start!

We went through the worst drought in a 100 years this year and honey
production overall was poor both Russian and other lines. I have no idea how
well the Russians will winter in Missouri but reports from Iowa are that
they will winter great.

I may or may not put a few on a semi for California in February which would
be a test  of how well they travel. Mine and my partners bees are wintering
in Missouri instead of California this year and so far so good. The weather
has not been severe and only cold enough for the bees to cluster so low
store consumption BUT things can change in a hurry in Missouri and over two
months of possible hard winter left.
