As to how widespread, I would have to take a wild guess: perhaps <5%.

I found this to be relevant to our discussions on the merits of pure subspecies (from buckfastbeekeerpersgroup.co.uk):

'As mentioned above, there are numerous Buckfast breeders, the majority of which are in Europe. These breeders continue the work started by Brother Adam.
