That was interesting about the soot and carbon dust causing some of the
glacier melting. Here if we want to plant something in the garden early
like peas we throw the ash from the wood stove on the garden. It does two
things, makes the snow melt faster and gives the soil some nutrients, what
we mainly want is the snow off the garden. I have seen how fast it melts
snow off the ground so I think it would make a difference on a glacier.
