I think that differences in effectivity between treatment methods can be attributed to the several modes of action of OA. By sublimation one makes the whole hive system more acid, which suppresses bacterial growth. By dribbling one disturbs the cuticula of the mites, mode of action as a chelating agent (including extraction of minerals). By feeding OA in sugar syrup one activates the bees, leading to higher mite fall (this effect is not very specific for OA, many substances effectuate this, e.g. powdered sugar, formic acid). Any substance has more modes of action. And there are more modes of action of OA, which gained no attention because of the focus on combatting varroa instead of influence on condition of the bees and colony behaviour.
