Hi all
I don't know how many of you go through the archives but it is quite interesting. For example, there were only four (4) posts about varroa in 1990, none in 1991. Things picked up a bit in 1992, with 14 posts, more than one a month!

in 1992, Janko Bozic wrote:

For last 3 years I have recorded some hours of video recordings about
allogrooming behaviour in carniolan bee. I'm just preparing detailed
quantitative description of allogrooming behaviour. I haven't got any spot
with grooming Varroa mites. I've also never observed Varroa removal
during direct observation of allogrooming behaviour in observation hives.

same year, Dr. Roger Morse is quoted:

"In all probability every beekeeper in the continental U.S. and Canada will have infested hives within two to four years."

Ingmar Fries introduced formic acid to the group:

Fries, I. 1989. Short-Interval Treatments with Formic Acid for Control of Varroa

First mention of oxalic in 1992, was -- get this -- as a bee repellent:

The letter from the Pesticides Board also contained news
regarding the oxalic acid bee repellent for 1080 jam. According
to the board, trials to date have indicated that while oxalic
acid is an effective repellent in 1080 jam formulations, test
results have been variable in terms of possum acceptance.

As Norm Dean said on Rural Report, "beekeepers are not against
poisoning possums" ... Some people in the industry are
beginning to wonder whether it isn't about time we insisted
publicly that the government possum programme stop killing our bees.
