Following Juanes' comments on the break in functional comb, I have just
converted to double deeps from a deep and a medium. I always liked the
lighter weight of a one and a half and I think I got more honey in a low
honey year as there is less room in the one and a half. However, reversing
is a pain (two comb sizes) and with two deeps I can have a division board
feeder in the top for easy fill-er-up feeding. My concern is having the
bees pack honey in the upper deep on a short flow. I intend to feed heavily
and try to have that second deep full of bees, brood, or stores when the
flow starts.

Comments? Other strategies?

Bill Lord
