If you raise your own queens, you'll soon notice that some hives
will build cells much more readily than others. Some just don't,
and if dequeened do not raise a replacement.

For a queen producer, hives which build cells readily are
appreciated, but for the honey producer, this trait is less
desirable.

This is just an other example of how the queen producer may
deliberately or inadvertently choose traits than are not ideal
for the customers.

Of course, breeder mothers are selected, hopefully for traits
preferred by customers, but the drones are not so easy to select.
Flooding mating areas with selected drone colonies should be
part of the queen producing process, but it is another complication
and I wonder how often or how well it is done.
