The fact that you feel passionately about a topic is no excuse for carelessness and even less excuse for the use of strawman arguments.  In fact, passion on a topic is cause for increased self-scrutiny and self-evaluation.  'Noble cause corruption' is still bad science even if it's perceived as for the best of reasons.
