Bob, there are areas with long winters where winter bees must survive
for even longer periods!  The main factor appears to be vitellogenin
reserves.

As soon as a vitellogenin test kit becomes available (a funding
request for such has been submitted), we will be able to better
predict bee longevity and disease resistance.
