The WV beekeeping community mourns the loss of one of our nicest and best
longtime beekeepers. Herb Shafer passed away on Thursday morning as a result
of a stroke that affected his brain stem. He was 91.

Many of you who have been around for some time will remember him as a very
kind and gentle man. His health has kept him from attending the Spring
and Fall meetings for the past few years, but he and his wife Vertrude
enjoyed meeting with their many friends at these events. We know that Vertrude
will miss him terribly. They were married for 69 years. Those of us who
knew him will miss him and his friendly smile.
