They are not trying to recover it.  for some reason once dropped its gone to
them,,,,  no 5 second rule or anything,  try a screen bottom board and see
for your self.


 
Your statements contradict each other, I must be misunderstanding what you are  saying.  I said, if they drop it on the porch, they'll come back to try to get it through the screen.

If its deep in a box, they'll ignore it, same as they will toss dead bees into a box under a hive - out of sight, out of mind, apparently.

However, if the drones manage to get into the pollen tray, they'll chow down.
