Just few comments to consider:

- each monitoring method for varroa has advantages and disadvantages.

- Each method is also affected by many variables differently.

- A method of choice should be reliable, consistent, economically cost effective, and have biological meanings.

- number of hives to be monitored is key in making proper decisions for treatments.

- not too many students around to keep counting mites for commercial operations. They are back to school when needed!

One thing that has been over looked in mite drop method is two trips to the field to install and remove the traps to count mites. The key thing for varroa control is to monitor, use the same method at all times, and treat in a timely manner.
