Here in the UK all the best (and most expensive!) hives are made of cedar.  
They last about as long as their owners and so are a good investment.  I  
have some cedar equipment that I know was made about the year I was born  
(1948).  Our frames are usually made of cheapo pine.  The honey isn't  affected.
