Heather Higo, also out of our lab, showed that QMP caused significant
dose-dependent increase in the number of foragers gathering pollen, and
individual pollen foragers returned to the nest with larger pollen loads
(Higo et al. 1992 Effect of honey bee queen mandibular gland pheromone on
foraging and brood rearing. Canadian Entomologist 124:409-418). She only
found this difference in colonies just established from packages, and has
done two years of work that seems indicate these differences do not occur
in established colonies. Heather's e-mail address is [log in to unmask]
