This is my second year of using neither smoke nor spray and I seem to be getting fewer stings than previously, yet a friend who has been helping me recently tells me that in her part of the country (200 miles NE) the bees (this season) are far more productive than here but could definitely not be handled without smoke. There is a Fastbuck breeder near her so maybe their drones are causing a cross cross.
