I once had to move two hives from one side of a yard to the  other side, a 
move of about 100 feet. A tree was being taken down at the  original 
location.
 
I moved both hives at night with a wet sheet on each one. Kept  the sheet 
on them for a day and a half (kept the sheet wet). No problems and no  bees 
returned to the original site.
