Here's a metric for ya

1  cup (or <) corpses, NO more, 
no shortage honey
I assume we're talking about a depopulated hive? 
Could it be spray?
probably no brood (or little)

Majority of these hives were probably 'normal' looking, 1 or 2 months ago

My experience ccd takes 2 months or less to affect Q, 
absconds can happen any time after 3 months
My guess is that absconds take 3-15 days to play out

The South yd was exposed mid-late Jul06
Post (on beel) to Dave C remarking Q (most) stopped lay 2 weeks early,
( a conversation about Q lay year round-oct06)
Unbeknownst an early ccd symptom
About 8/10 abscond by late Nov or Dec (all deadouts heavy)
2 with small clusters had a 'clean' baseboard, died a little later(Jan-feb)

That was the year with the very mild fall (in Ont)
This was claimed the reason for high mortality
There was even a government grant, I got ~$450
(and I have paid back -- in posts,)

I think it was $4M split evenly (WL) , Ontario bk
I"m not sure  WL ~45% 06-07 Ontario
Me 83%,  but I know why (now)
