A lot of folks decry "modern beekeeping" with all its faults and foibles, and harken back to the simpler ways of the past. This is not new, as we can see from this bit by Langstroth himself:

> Multitudes have abandoned the pursuit in disgust, while many of the most experienced are fast settling down into the conviction that all the so-called "Improved Hives" are delusions, and that they must return to the simple box or hollow log, and "take up" their bees with sulphur, in the old-fashioned way.
