Aaron, the label for Tylan Soluble states that it is "for the control of
American Foulbrood."  As I understand it, that means that it is the only
antibiotic registered for treating active cases, so wouldn't be illegal.
But it would be illegal to apply it prophylactically (the approved
application for OTC).

That said, Tylan has been widely misapplied (illegally) by applying it in
syrup (which has resulted in loads of honey being rejected for residues).

And as Jim points out, there are now jillions of combs out there containing
spores of AFB.

I'm in agreement with Aaron that the detection of even a single cell of AFB
calls for the torch.

There are currently epidemics of AFB in California's Bay Area due to the
explosion of recreational beekeepers who don't recognize its symptoms.
