Hello Bill,
Plenty of guys use a similar method and discussed at length on beesource.
Most use a 65% mix.
I don't know the place those guys get their formic.
Not easy to get I am told in the U.S.
The Canadians use formic.
I have used formic as pads.
I think placing formic directly in the brood nest strong enough to kill
varroa in cells is a bit hot (especially when temps are as hot as have been
in the Midwest this year).
Randy experimenting with a half strip is not hard to figure out.
brood kill & queen loss my *guess*.
Our temps were only in the high 90's F. today but Midwest temps are
unpredictable.
Especially in a drought (which we are still in)
Formic is another beekeeper tool but like all tools chose carefully.
Glad formic is working for you Bill!
Why not try the source of your last formic?
bob
