<><><>     To determine if the mites died and dropped or dropped and then died place plain boards with sticky boarders on the edges to catch the mite drop. If the mites are alive when they drop they will either bee still crawling around on the board or they will bee stuck on the edge of the board where the stickum is.  If they died and then dropped they would be scattered over the surface of the board even though the board was not a standard sticky board.  My two cents for what it's worth.
