The problems I see with sterile SHB (and I'm no expert) are:

1. Unlike a insects where sterlization works, the SHB mates with different males over her life (true?). So she may mate with a sterile male the first time, but what about the second?

2. I'm hearing numbers of 100 sterile to 1 non-sterile. In Hawaii, the hives are already loaded with SHB - one hive I have I trapped 1,000 and estimated at least another 600 or so in the hive. Releasing
thousands, if not millions of sterile insects is just going to add to the work load on the bees. If you're corralling 100 decoys, will you miss the one non-sterile one? (true)

3. Hawaii is a delicate ecosystem, me thinks. Adding a boat load of insects, sterile or not, is bound to have some adverse affect.
