Do a 'Bailey Frame change' in the spring as the colony is building up.

Can you do this and still produce a normal crop?

Depends what you mean by 'normal'. By feeding as recommended you may end
up with sugar in your honey. Try feeding syrup with blue food dye added
and see what happens!

You should enhance your crop (without artificial feeding) if you time it
right and the weather and flowers are favourable (this is as much a matter of
luck as of judgement this side of the Atlantic) as the bees will have
nowhere but the supers to place the incoming nectar and because the bees will
be so much healthier with far fewer misses in the brood pattern.

Try it out with controls.

Chris
