I had posted: "Any methodology that substitutes for monitoring is unsound" Not what people want to hear, I know. But Mariano Higes had this to say:

> The presence of sealed brood will largely determine the efficacy of some of the control treatments available. Different timing of nectar supply, colony development and honey harvest period will influence when treatment of bee colonies is possible or appropriate. Thus, detailed information on the climatic and foraging conditions is needed to make a functioning plan for an optimal treatment strategy. In this sense, it is inevitable that suggestions for control of varroa mites in honey bee colonies should be extraordinarily “regionalized”.

Mariano Higes. Ecological Varroa Control, notes on control strategies for South Europe

* In a sense, this is liberating since it indicates that each of us must tailor application to our situation. For those who want "repeat at five day interval" type instructions, too bad.
