I am sure everybody has seen moldy pollen and fermented honey in hives. Honey bees have various techniques that have evolved over time to prevent spoilage of hive stores, but they are hardly foolproof. Propolis, for example, has anti-bacterial properties, but it doesn't prevent bees from getting sick at all.
