We contacted the Einstein library when this statement first  appeared..  
This isn't simply a misquote, he never said it.  
 
Best that we could find, it traced back to a made up quote to bolster the  
anti-GMO argument, as indicated.  It could be, as suggested, be that  EO 
Wilson's statement was appropriated and modified.   That would make  some 
sense, easier to re-write then to create.
 
This quote has a life of its own.  My own university added it to an  
interview with us.  We know better.  It seemed to be a long ways   from any 
interest of Einstein, and it apparently was.  No interest in bees  at all, as far 
as we can determine.
