One of the side effects of nosema is dysentery, so those with it are more likely to feel the need to ease their bowels urgently.  If they can do so outside the hive, that's fine, but yours chose to do so on a cold day and didn't make it back, but their death helps break the cycle.  If they hadn't made it outside they would have crapped inside the hive where their spore-laden faeces would have to be cleaned up by young bees whose next job would be feeding the babies, thus passing on the Nosema.
