We used punky elm (no lack of it here with Dutch elm disease) for a nice
cool white smoke and a metal bucket to carry the smoker from yard to yard.
Some times we start with out the smoker and end up having to stop and light
it but the punky wood starts fast. We have a stopper to slide into the
smokers spout that slows the burn down while going from yard to yard.
Yesterday the bees where out for me and I did not mash a bee, it started
right from the start of opening a hive. They did not go after the other
worker. I ate ice cream the night before and am lactose intolerant and
though I took lactate pills had a small stomach ache through the night. So
did I smell sick to them? They sure did not want me around I even ended up
having to put on gloves after the third hive they just would not stop going
for any exposed skin. I know they smell the stings and go for the same area
so I smoke my hands if stung but that did not help at all yesterday.
