My purpose for re-starting the discussion of polystyrene hive beekeeping was to get more facts on the table concerning what folks are using, why they are using polystyrene, and specific business case results (which seem mostly missing at present). 


Well if it helps,  I use some Beemax  hives   Specificly for nucs to overwinter. ( I have about 30) While they have perk or two,  they also have some huge downsides.

Bees winter well in them,  but as for more honey??  Not seen it myself.  Ventilation is a problem,  the beard a lot more. Not nearly as durable,  they take special pallets, and they blow out of the truck bed.  Covers are a pain as they have to be weighted.
