Since my question is quoted, I am assuming that this is meant as a reply, 
however I do not understand what it has to do with what I ask.  Maybe you 
could elaborate?

My understanding is that there are many ways to observe mite tolerance and 
select top performers that do not involve letting susceptible hives die or 
even come close to death.  The failure by many to understand that fact 
results in the either/or option that many present as our only choice, and 
which polarizes the discussion into extremes.

I say there is a middle path, actually many middle paths.

Live and let die is not the only way to select for varroa tolerance.
