Such a mathematical approach has been used by some others for the selection
of breeding stock.

I'm not sure that it would be worth the effort, as compared to simply
observing and marking those colonies that perform well each season.

I use a simple method of placing a mark on the best colonies in each yard
throughout the season (I use colored push pins).  Any of them that later
have a problem lose their pin.

When it comes time for selecting breeders at the beginning of the next
season, I mainly look for those hives with the most pins from which to begin
my evaluations.
