Hello all,

I just recently subscribed to this list and this is my first query.

I am interested in the checkmite controversy and I would like to be sure of things.

Our local supplier switched us over to checkmite a couple years ago and has since switched back to apistan. I read on this list that there has been evidence of long term contamination of the brood comb of the active ingredients in checkmite.

I did lose 2 hives out of 10 over the winter but I find that loss to be the usual mortality rate. Those 2 hives I had inherited from a friend and were probably not strong enough going into winter which was fairly brutal this year here.

Since there was over 10 gallons of honey left by those two colonies I extracted it from their vacated brood chambers. My question is that since there had been checkmite strips in those chambers in the fall is it now unsafe to consume the honey?
