Was going though a hive last weekend.  The capped brood pattern was not solid but had open cells in which eggs had been relaid and were in various stages of development later than the majority of the brood in the area.  How does one tell the difference between a failing queen and brood that has been removed due to hygienic behavior.   There are five or six frames full of capped brood but it does have this shotgun pattern of empty cells.
