>Have you read Storch - At the Hive Entrance?

Once the head of the USDA-ARS was explaining debris at the hive entrance.

A beekeeper (name withheld) asked if the researcher had ever got up in the
night and checked the entrance debris?

The USDA-ARS researcher laughed and said he doesn't start work till after
sun up thinking the commercial beekeeper was joking.

The beekeeper went on to explain the bees collect the dead varroa etc. at
the entrance during the night and then remove quickly as soon as light
enough to fly.

Checking at 8 am misses most of the debris.
