One other piece of info missing Jim,  is that the corn used for ethanol,  is
not lost.  Its not thrown out.  The starches that are left are used in Mass
for feed and plastics.   This is NOT a zero sum game.  In fact if anything a
huge portion of the ethanol used to be a by product that was ignored.
Although the cost of extracting it first is fairly high.  So that corn is
not wasted or lost.
