This is analogous to breeding wolves vs poodles.  Wolves *survive* under
adverse conditions, and *thrive* under good conditions.  Wolves are
regionally adapted, despite having a common name.  The only two main
selective criteria that I would add would be for gentleness and reasonable
productivity.
