Thought the List might be interested in a paper that has just been published (see http://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms12459) - it has certainly hit the headlines here in UK. BBC radio coverage did at least interview an NFU spokesman who pointed out that the treatments (sprays) being used now that the EU neonics moratorium is in place are ones that have a wide and damaging environmental impact.

Have not read the paper fully yet but seems the conclusion is based on wild bee population decline related to foraging on oil-seed rape (canola to you across the pond). As Bayer have already pointed out - it is an interesting study but perhaps demonstrates only a relationship with oil-seed rape and is not conclusive evidence that neonics are to blame.
