Therefore, it is not surprising that in our caged bee assays, bees lived longer on sucrose syrup of higher purity.


Honey, which is mostly fructose and glucose, did not sustain caged worker bees as long as did sucrose syrup (Barker and Lehner, 1973)


For what its worth,  then honey isn't the best either.
