Hi Paul,
My interest in beekeeping started while I was in the army in the late 70's.
I was stationed in Washington, D.C. with the University of Maryland, College
Park, in my back yard, so I started taking classes, the first of which was
Beekeeping 101 taught by Dr. Dewey Caron. I was mesmerized by the fact the
entire class was able to surround an open hive with thousands of bees
buzzing around our heads and no one was stung. I read everything I could
read on bees, including the romanticized ramblings of Dr. Richard Taylor and
his Joys of Beekeeping (assume italicized title). I was hooked.

It wasn't until I was out of the army that I was able to start my own hives
and there have been some interruptions during that time. I also don't
always have time to manage the hives the way they need to be managed, but, I
have always been drawn back to the fascination I felt during my first
beekeeping class.
