And I would test for what? 
 
In any case the symptoms are quite clear-cut. 
 
if it was a varroa collapse there would be 
1 or 2 frames with (partially canabalized) pupae 
 
These frames are clear & empty 
 
For me, last fall laying ceased up to 2 weeks  
earlier than usual (there's even a letter in 
the archive, I don't claim to have seen  
the signifigence then) 
 
Only 1 person has replied re formic late summer, 
it sounded like No (CCD)
