As a relatively new beekeeper, I was anxious to get into my hives as much as possible. The best thing for me was a "mentor/beginner" connection with a local beekeeper. We inspected all our hives together most of the time. My first year I participated in over 100 inspections and there was always a discussion of what and why and what next. This was much better for me and the bees than any number of solitary inspections with no idea of "normal".
