But, as with all biodynamics, if one follows the dictates, one is at least
forced to pay far more attention to one's hives than one might otherwise
pay, which can't be a bad thing.

Observation is only one part of three essential things needed for understanding. You also need to have a grasp of the collected knowledge on the subject and the ability to think creatively. Missing any one of these three, and you are unlikely to get much from your efforts. 

One problem with these splinter groups is that they often dismiss conventional sources of information, and further -- they think a little too creatively. I love science fiction and fantasy as much as the next guy, but you need to be able to separate out the real from the surreal.
