The ARS is due to release stock this spring to certain breeders which
comes from Yugoslavia. The breeders must pass certain tests, pay a
royalty and pass other criteria. Then they will be able to sell production
queens from this Yugoslavian stock thought to be somewhat resistant
to Varroa mites...the 1922 bee law that it is illegal to import stock
still stands although there will be continuing pressure by the industry
to rescind this law in the future...The March issue of the American Bee
Journal contains an article by ARS Tom Rinderer, et.al. on the issue.
For more information contact Dr. Rinderer's lab..ph 504/766-6064 Baton Rouge
Louisiana.
