You may be jumping to the wrong conclusion.
There are always some bees that die in early spring trips.
The better check will be when you can open the hive on a nice day.
You can reuse after Varroa if you wait at least a month,
no basis for that time other than hearsay that all of the old
mites would be dead by then.
