There is nothing wrong with having a healty distrust of what those with the power to make laws can do.

We had a clean water bill passed and two commissioners appointed before anyone even found out it was even being considered.  It was going to put water meters on private wells and had a tax base attached to pay for the commissoners.  And like you mention, it took some rescources and effort to get it recinded.

I think it was a bad bill but also think the process of sneaking it in killed it by stirring up even more opposition then might be normal.  I also think that if the reps wanted it bad enough to weather the storm, that we would still have it today.
