latest article (on swarming) in ABJ. Bees naturally cull out any queen
cells started with larvae older than one day old.

In the long ago as well as queens I was collecting royal jelly.  I tended to
graft older larvae for jelly and if anything the take was better.  Although
this may have been at least partly because I grafted straight back into the
cells after removing the jelly.
