This was what I was thinking.  I never noticed that the frames sit any lower
than wooden ones.  Pierco frames aren't as wide (somethink I like about
them) as wood, but again,  I never noticed that the frames sit any lower.  I
didn't chime in because I wanted to check before I wrote and haven't had the
time to do so.  I ALWAYS have problems with burr comb on the top bar of
Pierco frames - a main reason I do not use them.  I have heard it said (but
I have not tried) that a piece of masking tape on top of the frames will
thwart the burr comb problem.  If that is true, then it speaks to the
material problem which Blane suggests.  Personally I'll stick with wood.
